Aberdeen at a Glance
Historically a logging and fishing town, Aberdeen has shifted its focus to become
one of the largest retail centers on the Washington
coast. Located at the southern end of the Olympic
Peninsula, Aberdeen also offers a number of accommodations that facilitate
shopping and the enjoyment of other local activities. Visitors to this part of
the state enjoy kayaking, wildlife viewing and exploring the forests located on
the Olympic Peninsula. There are roughly 250 acres (101 ha) of park space in Aberdeen,
of which 150 acres (61 ha) have been developed for public use, including picnic
areas, sports fields and more. The nearby town of Hoquiam
hosts the annual Grays
Harbor Shorebird Festival, which celebrates the migration of thousands of
shorebirds and offers lectures, exhibits and a banquet. For plays, musicals and
fine arts activities, visit the city's Driftwood
Theatre, a community theater that provides events year-round.
